the music scene in Dubai…

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

I’ve been around here for nearly 4 weeks now and during this period there were several concerts…to satisfy all tastes…
There was the Dubai Jazz Festival which lasted around 3 days, it had a lot of performances by people like Diane Schuur and Kool & The Gang. There was the rock festival which had performances by Megadeth and Three Doors Down. There was a Bryan Adams concert (I attended this one…it was AWESOME). I heard Chris de Burgh had a concert too.
Coming up next month Robbie Williams is going to be in town. Believe it or not the tickets for this concert were sold in around 3 hours or so. There’s already a black market for the tickets….you could also buy them on ebay :)
Jennifer Lopez is also going to have a concert in April. There’re rumors that Aerosmith are going to have a concert too.
A few months ago Phil Collins had a concert. There’re plenty of other concerts which I didn’t mention.
Compared to Cairo….the music scene here is extremely active.

Cheers!

the food scene in Dubai…

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Well as the majority of you know Dubai has people from all over the world, so naturally the food scene would be very diverse. You will nearly find anything you wish for….whether it is Italian pasta, or Lebanese mana2eesh, or Chinese noodles and sweet and sour chicken, Indian food, Mongolian food, oh yeah…and of course…McDonalds. Whether you want to eat in an American style burger place or want to drink Saki in a Karoake bar…its all there.
Anyways…some of the places that I found to be really good….for burgers…go to Johnny Rockets in Dubai Marina. Their burgers are pretty nice, the service is alright and their Cheesecake…mmmmmmm….is awesomely tasty (is this proper english?).
For ribs and steaks…I highly recommend eating at Tony Roma’s. Now so far I went there twice, their service has always been superb. The first time I had the ‘bountiful beef ribs’ and the second time I had tenderloin steak (I don’ remember if it was the tenderloin or the serloin). They were very well marinated…well done as I ordered and not burnt. Overall its a really nice experience.
With regards to mana2eesh….went to one of my favourite mana2eesh place a few times…zeit we zaatar…or was it zaatar we zeit…the quality was kind of the same compared to their branches in Beirut that I visited last September. While I was in AbuDhabi a couple of weekends ago, my relatives took me to a place called Shamiyat..mmm…very tasty mixed grill.
Yesterday night I went with a friend of mine (who came from AbuDhabi) to the hardrock cafe. Now the hardrock over here is different than the ones in Egypt. They don’t have a dance floor, however they’ve a very live and entertaining band. The same ultra friendly waters and the food was nice.
Hmmm…I wonder whats next….

Cheers!
